What to do in Easter 2022 in Barcelona

What to do in Easter 2022 in Barcelona
The celebration of Holy Week is one of the best known and most widespread traditions in Spain. It is also important in Barcelona, where there is a wide variety of ceremonies, masses and processions throughout Passion Week.

In this guide we are going to show you the best things to do in Barcelona during Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday.

Palm Sunday 2022 in Barcelona

It is the day that begins Holy Week with the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. We recommend two events for this day in Barcelona, one in the morning and one in the afternoon:
  • Paso de la Borriquita: Sunday, 10 April, from 11.00 to 11.30 a.m., organised by the Pontificia y Real Hermandad de Nuestro Padre Jesús del Gran Poder y M.ª Stma. de la Esperanza Macarena. It will be held in the Sant Agustí parish church (Plaça de Sant Agustí, 2).
To get there from Gracia Hotel you can take a half hour walk through the heart of the city along Paseo de Gracia and then Las Ramblas, or take metro line 3.
  • Procesión de la Buena Muerte: Sunday, 10 April, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., organised by the Congregació del Santíssim Crist de la Bona Mort. Start and finish: Parroquia Mayor de Santa Anna (Carrer de Santa Anna, 29).
Thanks to the location of our Hotel you will be able to reach the Parish quickly, either walking along Passeig de Gràcia or using the metro line 3.

Holy Thursday 2022 in Barcelona

Holy Thursday is the day that commemorates the establishment of the Eucharist at the Last Supper and the washing of the feet of Jesus to his apostles.

The ideal plan for this day is to go to the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi (Plaça del Pi, 7), near Barcelona Cathedral, to witness the Stations of the Cross of the Blood organised by the Reial i Il-lustre Arxiconfraria de la Puríssima Sang de Nostre Senyor Jesucrist. From the hotel it will take you just 15 minutes on metro line 3 or a walk of less than half an hour. No time available yet.

Holy Friday 2022 in Barcelona

This is the sixth day of Holy Week and one of the most important for Christians, as it commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.

To celebrate it, you can visit the Church of Sant Jaume (Carrer de Ferran, 28) by taking metro line 3 from the hotel. There you can watch the procession of Our Lady of Sorrows organised by the Brotherhood and Guild of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Easter Sunday 2022 in Barcelona

This is the central Christian festivity, which commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after he was crucified, and it is the day with the most celebrations and processions of the whole week.

We suggest you go to Barcelona Cathedral, where the most important mass will be held. You can also use line 3 to get there from our hotel.

In addition to all these plans, it is quite common for theatrical representations of the Passion of Christ to be performed throughout these days.
